Spirit of the Gulf is a membership organization of female singers, who meet regularly to practice, perform, socialize, and have fun. We currently have over 160 singers of all ages, all walks of life, and all parts of Florida as well as many snowbirds from "up North".
We are proud to have been voted Most Entertaining Chorus at our last two International competitions in Las Vegas and Hawaii. As current Florida champions we are now on a quest to "run with the big dogs" at the next International in Seattle, WA in November 2010. In addition to sharing our music with others, another great passion of ours is learning more about the art of acapella singing. Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals, and a very important component of the chorus experience. Several times a year, we will get coaching from a visiting master in the art of barbershop, where we learn many fabulous tricks of the trade.
In the spring of every year,
Spirit of the Gulf has a special show, The Winners' Circle. A big part of that event is a young women's harmony competition. Early in the year auditions are held around southwest Florida and finalists are given the opportunity to compete at the show with audience and judges voting for the winners of cash scholarship prizes.
Most choruses have a number of members who form their own vocal quartets in addition to singing with the chorus.
Spirit of the Gulf currently is home to a number of wonderful quartets, and we are very proud of them!

Spirit of the Gulf is a chapter of Sweet Adelines, International, a non-profit organization of approximately 30,000 members in choruses and quartets, worldwide. The Headquarters is in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
