Welcome Michael Slamka!

Mike joined us as our new director in January 2013.  We have learned that Mike grew up in a barbershop family.  Most likely he's been singing along since he could talk, but he first sang with a chorus when he was ten years old.  His first experience in a championship quartet came with Power Play,
a group including his father, Jack, brother Mark, and cousin, Don.  Their International win came in 2003.  During their years together, they produced three recordings and performed at The Grand Ole Opry.

Mike now sings with Crossroads,
the 2009 Barbershop Harmony Society International Champions.
These men came together from four separate champion quartets and originally four different states.
They sing a variety of styles including vocal jazz, blues, gospel, pop classics, and standards from the Great American Songbook.  They have become a much sought after quartet, performing in Germany, France, Finland, the U.K., Spain, Japan, and across the United States.

.

Mike and his wife, Traci, now live in Fort Myers, Florida with their three daughters.  Spirit of the Gulf Chorus considers it their lucky day when Mike moved to Florida and was willing to take on directing a Sweet Adelines chorus.

Spirit of the Gulf is the First Place Chorus in Atlantic Gulf Regional  Competition     AND    The Chorus won the Showmanship Trophy
