Competition is a major and fun part of the barbershop world that helps keep us focused on raising the bar of performing excellence. We come together in a spirit of lighthearted contest, to see who's really got top form. We root for each other, cheer each other on, and once the medals have been handed out, we sing and party into the night!
Every year in March or April Spirit of the Gulf makes the trip to Daytona Beach, FL to compete or assist at our regional contest. Dozens of choruses and quartets come together to sing and compete. There are a number of judging categories, and the groups bring complete and entertaining packages. If you're anywhere near Daytona Beach, FL in the spring, please come be a part of the fun! The 2011 regional contest will be held April 29 and 30 in the Peabody Auditorium adjacent to the Ocean Center. Spirit of the Gulf will be competing in hopes of securing a spot for the 2012 International competition in Denver.
Sometime in the fall the winners of all regional contests -- and a few "wildcards" -- gather together at International competition. In 2011 International competition will be held in Houston, TX, October 18 - 22. You can view the complete contest on a live webcast on the Sweet Adelines International website. This is the ultimate female barbershop competition -- not to be missed! Future International competition sites include Denver in 2012 and Honolulu in 2013.
